Vickie Tonkins

Candidate for El Paso County Commissioner, District 5

I’m honored to ask for your vote on Tuesday, November 4th, to serve as your next County Commissioner for District 5.

For many years, I have served our community as the El Paso County GOP Chair and in multiple leadership roles. Through these experiences, I’ve learned an important truth:

"Politics without principles produces pitiful communities!"

Why I’m Running

Government departments too often overspend — and that must stop. Just like you and I live within a budget, so should our government. I will fight for responsible spending, innovative solutions, and efficient services that make government more effective, more productive, and less invasive.

My vision for El Paso County is clear:

  • A county that is safe and welcoming for all families,

  • A community where businesses large and small can thrive,

  • A local government that protects our God-given rights and operates responsibly under the Constitution.

My Commitment to You

I will fight for you. I will stand for our families, our freedoms, and our future. I know the challenges of going through the waters, the desert, and the fire — and by God’s grace, I’ve overcome them. With that same faith, I will serve you with strength, integrity, and conviction.

On November 4th, I humbly ask for your support and your vote. Together, we can build a stronger, freer, and more prosperous El Paso County.

Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America.

Conservative Values – I will work to see a reduction in taxes (fees), reduce government waste, and hold agencies accountable.

Faithful Family Woman – Devoted wife of 38 years, proud mother, and blessed “Nonna” of six grandchildren.

Proven Leadership – President of a fast-growing Republican Club and longtime community leader in education, charity, and government service.

Grassroots & America First – Committed to caucus, county assembly, and remaining accountable to YOU.

Patriot – Defender of the Constitution and the Second Amendment. Award-winning singer who inspires faith and patriotism.

Heart for Youth – Co-founder of The Destiny Project, Inc. (1997), a nonprofit helping at-risk youth find purpose and destiny both locally and nationally.

Better Roads & Transportation

Our families and businesses depend on safe, reliable roads and strong infrastructure. Yet too often, higher taxes don’t translate into better results. Funds are diverted to wasteful projects while critical transportation needs are ignored. As your Commissioner, I will fight to ensure every dollar is prioritized for roads, bridges, and essential infrastructure, not pet projects or political agendas. Better roads mean safer travel, stronger commerce, and a higher quality of life for every resident in El Paso County.

Fiscal Responsibility

You and I live within a budget, and government should be no different. When departments overspend, it hurts families, businesses, and the economy as a whole. As your Commissioner, I will fight against reckless spending and insist on responsible, transparent budgets that respect taxpayers. Fiscal responsibility doesn’t mean doing less — it means doing things smarter. By keeping taxes low and reducing waste, we can build a climate that attracts new businesses, creates jobs, and allows every citizen to thrive.

Smaller Government

Government should serve the people, not burden them. As Ronald Reagan said, “Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.” I believe in keeping government limited, accountable, and efficient. Instead of growing bureaucracy, we should be growing opportunities for families, small businesses, and entrepreneurs. A smaller, smarter government ensures that individual freedoms are preserved, communities flourish, and prosperity is shared across El Paso County.

Priorities for El Paso County

Safe Communities & Family First

Strong families are the foundation of a strong community. That’s why I believe in policies that put families first and create safe, nurturing environments for our children. Protecting families also means standing firmly with law enforcement, fire, and rescue services to provide them with the resources they need to keep our neighborhoods secure. I will work tirelessly to stamp out lawlessness, strengthen community safety, and support the people who protect us daily. Families thrive best when they are safe, supported, and free.

Defending Life & Faith

I am proud to be 100% Pro-Life and Pro-Faith. Government has a constitutional duty to protect the most vulnerable among us, and I will always defend the sanctity of life. I also believe in protecting the religious freedoms that are the foundation of our nation. Too often, government policies conflict with God-given rights instead of honoring them. As your Commissioner, I will stand firm in defending life, liberty, and the freedom of faith, ensuring that El Paso County remains a place where values are respected and freedom is preserved.

We Need Your Help

Running a grassroots, people-powered campaign takes resources. Every yard sign, every flyer, every ad, and every conversation with voters depends on the generosity of supporters like you. If you believe in fiscal responsibility, safer communities, smaller government, and defending life and freedom, I ask you to join me in this fight.

Your donation — whether $25, $50, $100, or more — goes directly toward reaching voters across El Paso County and ensuring our message of faith, family, and freedom is heard loud and clear. Together, we can stand up for our values and build a stronger future for District 5.

Please consider making a secure donation today. Every dollar makes a difference.

Remember Karman Line!

Did You Know?

Did you know... 82% of citizens voted NO while only 18% voted yes?

Did you know... Despite this overwhelming vote, the Board of County Commissioners voted 4 to 1 to move forward with ANOTHER plot of land near Schriever Space Force Base to build 5,000 homes. (The District 3 Commissioner cast the only “No” vote.)

Did you know... In June, the County’s Planning Commission voted 5–3 against recommending this building plan to the Commissioners—yet the final decision moved ahead anyway.

Did you know... Citizens have raised serious concerns about limited water supply (aquifer strain), increased noise, light pollution, military base encroachment, and environmental impact.

Did you know... If allowed to proceed, this project could stretch into a 10–20 year development process.

Many fear this could open the door for Karman Line to return—against the will of the people!
